PORTSMOUTH N.H. – A special delivery at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. A woman gives birth, in the parking lot.
The experience was just as special for the staff as it was for the parents.
Last week Savita – started having pains.
“She is going to be fast, yeah, she was not expecting that it could be a labor pain” Ajit Nirbhuvane, Baby’s Father
She wasn’t due to give birth for a few days — but the pain got so severe she could barely walk. “I was really scared”, so then she said, now it’s time to run to the hospital.
When the family called – the hospital staff directed them to the emergency entrance – but among the chaos – they ended up at the main lobby.
“My particular lab sits right outside the main lobby so instinctively we went out to see if we could render aid prior to rapid response getting there” Robin D’Amico, Helped Deliver Baby. Who does cardiac ultra sounds – had no idea what would come next. “When i got to the vehicle I saw the mother giving birth”
And just like that…in a couple of minutes, or five, the baby was delivered in the car.
With the help of some security guards – she delivered a healthy little girl – weighing in at six pounds 15 ounces.
“We are really thankful to them” Savita Nirbhuvane, Baby’s Mother
D’amico says she did what anyone else in this hospital would do. “I think those of us who are in the medical field you know, it’s just instinct, and we do what we do and we do a good job at it.”
And it didn’t take long for this couple to choose the perfect name – Advita – which means “unique.”
