PORTLAND – Starting this week there’s something new to do down on Portland’s Waterfront and it’s all about science.
The Portland Science Center opens tomorrow. The world renowned “body worlds” exhibit is the first to come to the new center.
Featuring real human bodies, the showcase examines the body through displays about disease, aging, and neurocience. The bodies are all donated and then made into displays through a plastination technique.
The designer and museum organizers hope it will bring a unique understanding of the body to visitors.
“When you are standing in front of these exhibits there is only one thing that you can detect and that is yourself and for many visitors it is a very emotional experience and they say i have a completely different view of myself and never will i take it for granted.” Dr. Angelina Whalley, Designer, Body Worlds
The body worlds exhibit will only be in Portland for a limited time. Organizers say they’re in talks to bring exhibits like “Titanic” and “King Tut” to the science center after the current one closes.
