SEARSPORT – A major development in plans for a big dredging project off Mack Point in Searsport.
The Army Corp of Engineers and the Department of Transportation have withdrawn the application to dredge at the marine terminal.
That’s a big relief to people on Isleboro, the Lobster Union and others that voiced opposition to the project.
They say the material that would be dredged is full of dangerous sediment and fear it could impact the lobster population and do other environmental damage.
The Army Corp and Transportation Department may submit a revised application for the dredging at a later date.
