AUGUSTA – Kennebec County Sheriff Randall Liberty has been selected to take over the position of Maine State Prison Warden later this month.
Liberty has been in the Army, National Guard and has worked in law enforcement for over thirty years. That includes the past seven years as sheriff.
Liberty has received a lot of praise for coming up with innovative programs at the county jail that help inmates get back on the straight and narrow.
That includes one program that helps them fight substance abuse, and liberty plans to create similar programs at the state prison.
Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon will run things until the Governor selects an interim sheriff.
An election to select a new sheriff for Kennebec County will be held in November of 2016.
