BREWER – Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Cancer Care is getting national recognition for its use of advanced technology.
The Association of Community Cancer Centers awarded them with the 2015 innovator award. It recognizes their use of technology to improve the patient experience.
And that’s what they are doing, with their real-time location system. It pin-points the exact locations of patients, family members, and staff through the small and wear-able badge.
Manager of nursing services at EMMC Cancer Care says it creates for a better healing environment.
“We don’t need paging, we don’t need calling, we don’t need to shuffle papers, very efficient for the staff, we communicate without having to interrupt each other at crucial points” Brenda Clementes, Manager of Nursing Services, EMMC Cancer Care, Brewer
“They’ve created an environment that has allowed us as patients to feel very secure, very calm and at ease while we wait to get our care” Tamara Boulier, Patient, EMMC Cancer Care, Brewer
The location system tracks down the patient and employee through sensors throughout the building. EMMC Cancer Care is one of six hospitals in the U.S. To receive this annual honor.
