AUGUSTA – Maine democrats announce the new name of its annual fall dinner.
The event will now be “The Perkins-Mitchell Dinner”. Previously, it was known as Jefferson-Jackson dinner.
The organization says they decided to change the name because of the former presidents reputation with slavery.
The annual event will honor Frances Perkins. He served as Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Secretary of Labor and Senator George Mitchell.
Both have ties with Maine.
The dinner will be held December 4th. It will be held at Pine Point in Scarborough.
