EAST COAST – We will likely be spared from Hurricane Joaquin… But it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Coast Guard crews are busy making sure their boats are ready to go. They’re also asking boat owners to check on their own boats over the next couple of days and make sure they are secured properly, in case severe weather hits.
The rain and winds causing several unmanned boats to drift away from shore.
Lt. Scott McCann says the coast guard had to spend several hours chasing boats to make sure no one was in danger. “The majority of cases yesterday were unmanned drift cases that floated off cause weather made them drift away so coast guard has to assume someone is on them and we’ll conduct searches until we can find owner and they can confirm they’re safe or someone was on it and we’ll keep searching.”
Another way to help the coast guard is to make sure your boats are properly labeled so that if it drifts they can get in touch with you as fast as possible.
