BANGOR – Local first responders are stressing fire safety as they kick off fire prevention week at the Bangor fire department.
The Central Station held an open house yesterday to teach children fire safety. The day included games, truck tours, and a smoke house to teach children how to escape burning buildings.
Firefighters, policeman, and even the UMaine baseball team put on the event. There were also free car seat safety checks and instillation by a certified seat installer for parents.
“It’s a good day, a lot of smiles, a lot of people happy, it’s good to see the kids as they get into the seat of a fire truck, hopefully some of them will be the future firefighters of Bangor Fire Department.” Tom Higgins, Bangor Fire Chief
After this event, one lucky Bangor student will win a ride to school in a fire engine this week.
