WISCASSET – Police say a Boothbay woman who caused an accident on Route 1 in Wiscasset yesterday was under the influence of heroin.
54-year-old Cheryl Swenson is charged with operating under the influence of drugs. The accident occurred mid-afternoon Thursday and closed the busy Route 1 for more than an hour.
Police say Swenson swerved into the path of a truck towing a horse trailer. The collision caused Swenson’s car to roll over. Her 77-year-old mother was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
A drug-recognition expert from Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s office determined Swenson was under the influence of prescription drugs and heroin.
The driver of the truck was not injured. The one horse in the trailer sustained minor injuries.
