NEWRY – A handheld radio helped two hikers who became lost in Maine’s rugged wilderness.
Game officials say the man and woman became separated from a hiking party of six people on Sunday afternoon. They were supposed to meet up at the Grafton Notch Trailhead on Route 26, but two of the members didn’t arrive.
Game officials and search and rescue volunteers arrived on the scene around four o’clock Monday morning and began looking for the couple. Luckily, they had brought along a handheld radio which they used to contact authorities around eleven yesterday morning.
Both were in good condition after spending an unexpected night in the woods.
