HERMON- “We received a report of a building fire. The caller said that the fire was coming out around the pellet stove chimney,” said Ray Pipes, Chief of the Hermon Fire Department.
At least six fire stations responding to a call at around ten of six on Thursday- including Hermon, Hampden, Bangor, Levant, Carmel, and the Air Force. The caller was the homeowners son.
“The homeowners son was present, his adult son. He smelled some smoke, investigated, found the living room full of smoke. He called 9-1-1, when he exited the building he found fire on the outside,” said Pipes.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed that it may be related to the wood pellet stove.
“It did start in the area of the pellet stove but i wouldn’t designate the pellet stove as the issue at this point,” said Pipes.
The left-hand side of the inside of the home has extensive damage, so the family may stay in their camp or make other arrangements until repairs are made. The fire chief believes that the home will be able to be salvaged.
