STATEWIDE – Hunting brings in almost 340-thousand dollars to Maine’s economy each year. About a third of that comes from deer hunting.
Those at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife have been getting ready – as the deer season begins Saturday for residents and Monday for out of staters.
The amount of hunting licenses has steadily increased the last three years. Officials say the deer population has also increased, rebounding from tough winters in 2008 and 2009.
