AUGUSTA – People concerned about the safety of utility smart meters are appealing to the state’s highest court.
The coalition to stop smart meters believes the radio-waves emitted by the meters can cause health issues.
It’s now appealing last years ruling by the Public Utilities Commission that determined the meters are safe.
The coalition doesn’t believe the PUC did a thorough job investigating the safety concerns before allowing Central Maine power company to install thousands of the meters.
It hopes Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court will reverse the PUC’s ruling. The PUC is standing by its decision.
