LEWISTON – A neighborhood is on edge after shots were fired Friday night in Lewiston. One man is now behind bars.
Right around midnight the sound of gun fire blasts through this area in Lewiston.
“I was in the kitchen area and all of a sudden I heard shots go off so I came down and looked.” Sherry Brooks lives next to the Acme Social Club on Park Street. “I was wondering what was going on.”
Police say 911 calls came in from people saying someone was shooting outside the club.
“The club this happened outside of is just a few blocks away from the Lewiston police station and investigators say officers in the area were on scene within a matter of minutes.
Brooks noticed some chaos as police tried to start their investigation. “People were coming out of the bar arguing while they were trying to investigate. Cops had to get after them because they wouldn’t be quiet.”
Police say there were bullet holes in cars near the Acme Club. They say evidence from the scene led them to 20-year-old Dashane Seamster who is from Oklahoma. Investigators say they found him near Birch and Bartlett Streets, not far away.
Seamster is in jail charged with felony reckless conduct with a firearm.
Brooks and neighbors are breathing a sigh of relief. “I’m just glad it’s safe again for now.” Investigators are working to determine if the shooting was targeted at someone or if it was meant as a threat. They’re also investigating what lead up to shots being fired.
