ELLSWORTH – City officials have agreed to install three miles of above ground fiber in Ellsworth.
The connection would start on Water Street at the former waste water facility. A cooling center has been approved as well. A 250,000 dollar grant helped get the project off the ground.
It has officials hoping to attract more businesses to the area.
“It’s critical, I mean the world is moving towards internet based services this is a critical need for a lot of companies to come here and to not have it might take us off the map for them so having this is critical.” stated Jason Ingalls an IT Systems Administrator
Independent service providers will be in charge of the internet rather than the city itself. The installation is scheduled to start this time next year.
