BREWER – A Brewer couple is out of their home tonight after a fire Thursday morning.
Crews from several departments responded to the Union Street home around 9 a.m. Officials believe that ashes from the wood stove that were dumped in the yard ignited the fence which spread to the house.
The homeowner says she didn’t realize what was going on until firefighters came knocking on the door
“My husband was in the bathroom and didn’t realize what was going on either. So we’re all out, dogs out we’re still waiting to see if the kittens are all out.” stated Betty Lou Sibley one of the Homeowners.
“This is a good lesson as far as don’t be putting your ash outside. Keep it in a metal container for a good week, or if you have a garden hose, put water to it.” added Ralph Cammack the Deputy Fire Chief of Brewer.
At last report, there was no sign of their missing cats and the family is receiving assistance from The Red Cross.
The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a cause.
