PORTLAND – New developments in an Old Port shooting. Portland police say Moses Okot is the primary suspect.
Okot recently served three years in prison after pleading guilty to his role in the murder of Serge Mulongo.
After the shooting early Monday morning police say they followed Okot in a vehicle that was speeding down Market Street and blew through a stop sign. Police arrested Okot near Oxford Street.
Before he was taken to jail, he was treated at the hospital for a cut on his head.
“We do believe we have the primary suspect in custody at this point and the investigation does continue and it’s a collaborative approach primarily by the Southern Maine Task Force and the FBI.” said Michael Sauschuck the Portland Police Chief.
“I think it’s great there has been an arrest, I think the police are doing a very good job with these types of issues but there’s a larger issue here which is about gun control.” added Randall Rucker a Portland Resident.
Okot’s lawyer says he’s concerned about his clients health and is trying to get him seen by a doctor. Okot is expected to be in court for a probable cause hearing Tuesday December 1st.
He’s charged with having a gun — which is a violation of his bail.
