HAMPDEN – Hampden police say a boy was hit by a car heading south on Main Road North around 8 a.m. after he ran out past stopped traffic in the north bound lane.
The child rolled over the car, but was alert and conscious when authorities arrived on scene.
The driver, 20-year old Yodit Rosenbauer was looking at her GPS at the time of the accident and was ticketed for distracted driving.
Hampden Police Officer Joel Small said it’s important to keep an eye out during heavy traffic.
“There are definitely safer times to be looking at your phone and doing things with your phone when it’s congested traffic and almost virtually in a school zone that’s about the worst time I could think of to be looking at your phone.” added Officer Small.
Police are unsure whether the child’s injuries are serious.
They believe he was walking to school when the accident happened.
