BANGOR- This morning on Good Morning Maine’s Healthy ME segment, Dr. Richard Caesar, a pediatric urologist at Eastern Maine Medical Center, joined Laura Smith and Blake Lipton to talk about a new life-changing robot-assisted being used for pediatric patients.
EMMC is the first hospital in the state to offer heminephrectomy, a procedure in which part of the kidney is removed using a surgical robot.
Caesar is the first doctor in Maine to perform the procedure. Its geared towards treating Maine children with incontinence caused by long-term urologic conditions.
He also treats leakage by performing a pyelopasty, a procedure used to correct urinary obstruction by removing the non-functioning part of the kidney.
“The robot allows for better visualization, technique, and precise placement of sutures” said Caesar.
