A particular sea creature is finally getting the recognition that it deserves here in Maine, and eight year old’s are the driving force behind it.
Brewer Community School traveled to Augusta on a field trip to see the committee vote on whether Maine will accept their bill to make the lobster Maine’s state crustacean.
The students, dressed in red in support of the lobster, received a tour of the state house. They also received a standing ovation from the House Senate for proposing the bill and traveling to Augusta.
Each student personally wrote a letter to a state Representatives or Senator, explaining why they think the lobster is important to Maine. For some students, this was their first time at the states capital, and they were ecstatic.
Thanks to a dedicated group of young children, the state of Maine can officially declare the Lobster the state crustacean.
