STATEWIDE – Spring is fast approaching meaning temperatures are warming and ice on lakes and ponds is melting. That could lead to some dangerous conditions on Maine’s waters.
Ice shacks are required to be removed by the end of the season or the first few days of April.
Those at the warden service say one went through Pushaw Lake just last week.
Maine Game Warden Cpl. Jim Fahey said “This particular shack just, the sun’s rays are just so strong right now, longer periods of daylight. Dark objects absorb the sun’s rays and this one went through. The fellow did mount a salvageable operation over the weekend. He was able to successfully recover it.”
Fahey goes on to say there are plenty of areas for open water fishing, but asks the public to be mindful of safety equipment.
