WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Susan Collins introducing bipartisan legislation to help those living with HIV and AIDS.
Senator Collins is working with Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island to improve the outdated formula used to distribute funding for housing programs that serve people with the disease.
The bill would allocate funding based on the number of people currently living with HIV and AIDS in the U.S., Instead of the cumulative number of aids cases since 1981.
Right now, 55 percent of those cumulative cases used in the formula represent deceased individuals, diverting money away from those who actually need it. A similar measure is also being sponsored in the house.
