PORTLAND – Police are searching For an accused killer on the run who opened fire in portland Tuesday night leaving one person dead a second hurt.
And while police are worried they don’t have the suspect in custody, police say the shooting was not random and the public is not in danger.
Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck said, “The suspect was there for a reason and the unfortunate reason in this particular case was violence.”
Police said around 11 Tuesday night someone shot two men at 88 Gilman Street inside apartment 305. 36-year-old David Anderson was killed and another man was injured.
“We do believe that he showed up to a specific apartment at a given time, but I won’t speak to the relationship above and beyond that.” added Sauschuck.
The building is a property of “Shalom House” an organization which offers mental health services. Police say the two victims were visiting someone who lives there. They aren’t saying how the suspect got inside.
Sauschuck continued, “I can only guess at this point to say they got in somehow and it is a secure building,”
They’re looking for a man, who they say was seen running from the building shortly after the shooting. Officials said he’s white, about 6 feet tall wearing a black jacket and pants.
“We’re always concerned, we don’t have an individual in custody, at this point i would say again that this is not a random act, i believe this individual was there for a purpose which leads me to believe that the other members of the community aren’t in danger.” concluded Sauschuck.
