BANGOR — Bangor Fire Dept. called to a three alarm structure fire on the corner of Hammond st. and Webster Avenue just after 10:40pm. The fire occured in the Rice/Allied Glass Building. Witnesses report hearing four loud booms and then saw smoke and flames.
In total five departments were on scene with crews from Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Hermon and Orono responding.
Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr says he was surprised that the building was not more extensively damaged due to the difficulty they had fighting the fire. He credited his team with a quick take down.
The building directly behind was evacuated. The only damage it suffered was the melting of the vinyl siding on the outside of the structure. The occupants are already back inside.
Traffic was rerouted throughout the night.
The owner of the building has been notified. The Fire Marshall’s office will be called in the morning.
