BANGOR – Friday morning, an accident shut down State Street for about an hour, leaving a mess in its wake.
Bangor rescue crews responded to a two-car accident in front of the Legacy Sandwich Shop. Both drivers in the accident walked away safely, but both vehicles and two buildings were damaged. The driver of one of the vehicles was pulling out of a parking lot two buildings away from the building were his truck came to rest. Lewis Carron, the driver of the truck, said another vehicle struck his truck forcing him into a pinball-like spin.
The accident caused structural damage to the apartment house at 159 State St. According to Assistant Bangor Fire Chief Dennis Nadeau only a few people were home at the time and immediately vacated the building while the firefighters shored up the damaged structure. Nadeau said it appeared the icy conditions caused the accident. Bruce Guimond, owner of the Legacy Sandwich Shop, said his building received minor damage. He also said he shop was packed at the time of the accident.
