BANGOR – A social service provider files for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The Getchell Agency, located in Bangor, blames the state for the filing.
Company CEO Rena Getchell is in a legal battle with former employees over sleep-time pay, for which she says the state’s Mainecare system did not reimburse the agency.
Getchell says mounting legal fees and the constant threat of multi-million dollar judgments over which the state has control of is why she’s seeking to reorganize the companies debt, which includes at least $140,000 in legal bills and $873,000 in back taxes.
Getchell said in her statement, she has no plans to close the company,
