PERU – A dog is found dead and dumped on the side of the road in western Maine. Right now officials in the town of Peru are trying to track down its owner.
Officials say the dog was shot in the head multiple times.
Sue Milligan is on a serious mission. “We’re basically just trying to get answers right now” she stated. As the animal control officer for the area she’s working to find justice for this dog.
“Why was it killed?”, she asked.
Last week Milligan said the 2-year-old Pit Bull or American Bull Dog mix was found dead on the side of Route 108 in Peru shot twice in the head.
“To have one dumped on the side of the road like that just, that really shocked me.” Milligan added.
On Oxford County Deborah Stover said, “I think it’s very sad and sickening, if you don’t want a dog, then you can re-home it, bring it to a shelter,.”
Milligan said in Maine it’s legal to euthanize your own dog but it’s illegal to leave it somewhere that’s not your own property.
“It could very well be that they felt their dog was sick or whatever the case may be and they needed to euthanize it and just didn’t know, you can’t just take it and dump it” continued Milligan. That’s what she’s working to find out.
“Was it the owner that did it or did somebody else do it?” is what Milligan questioned.
Once Milligan does get more answers the district attorney will decide if charges will be filed.
Meanwhile people in the community are supporting her search.
“Someone’s going to recognize the dog, hopefully.” Milligan ended with saying.
