STATEWIDE – Tick season is here. Researchers say the pests are out and active. Milder temperatures and little snow is bringing them out early.
A doctor at the Maine Medical Research Institute said he’s getting calls about ticks everyday and expects to get more as it warms up.
As for protecting yourself? They say wear insect repellent, long pants, closed toe shoes and of course check yourself and your pets before going inside your home.
Ticks carry diseases, the most common lyme disease. It brings flu like symptoms and if left untreated it can spread to the heart, joints, and nervous system.
