MILLINOCKET – One man is dead after an early morning fire on Elm Street in Millinocket.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the victim is likely Mike Olin, 55, who lived alone in the one story house at 136 Elm Street.
The body was found by the door of the house and investigators suspect the victim was was trying to escape the flames.
The house was destroyed and Fire Marshals are now attempting to determine how the fire started.
“The fire normally starts where the worst damage is and the worst damage is in the back,” says Sgt. Scott Richardson of the state fire marshal’s office. “But we have no idea where it had started at this point.”
There was no sign of any working smoke detectors in the house.
This is the sixth fire death in Maine this year.
