STATEWIDE – Most people know that the reusable shopping bags you get at the grocery store are great for the environment.
They not only keep plastic bags out of landfills, but also help feed Maine’s hungry. In fact, a program run by Hannaford has reached two big milestones.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the bags has helped provide more than 500,000 meals to fight hunger and has also helped raise more than 100,000 dollars to support community groups.
To help celebrate the accomplishment, Hannaford will donate 2 dollars to local charities for every “Hannaford Helps” bag that is sold in April.
That means every time you buy one of these environmentally friendly bags, you could be helping a neighbor who has been struggling to keep food on the table.
