MACHIAS – Arise Addiction Recovery Center is a new facility in Machias for men recovering from opiate addictions, and members are bringing awareness to addiction in Maine through an upcoming forum on April 9th at Washington Academy.
The facility is stemming from what the director calls an “epidemic” in Washington County. Statistics for those suffering showing only those who die from addiction, but not mentioning those who overdose and live, and are struggling for their lives in hospitals everyday
When Arise Addiction Recovery opened its doors in January, it originally had two men. It has now grown to twelve full time occupants who are learning and growing to become their better selves through their program.
The statistics are alarming in Washington County, showing that over seven individuals were sent to the hospital over Easter weekend due to an overdose.
Over time, Arise is looking to purchase a home for women in Washington County for drug addiction.
