FALMOUTH – Mother Nature seems to be playing tricks on our growing season. Last week’s warm temperatures started the gardening bug for a lot of folks, but now the cold snap has put the brakes on that.
We stopped by Skillin’s in Falmouth to ask the experts about some flowers that have already started to bloom.
If you have crocuses that have already come up the late cold snap could be a big problem for them:
“The crocuses are one of the ones that are first up, full out flowering that type of thing, I will say this cold, the wind, the snow that will probably hasten the demise of the mature crocus.” said co-owner Mike Skillin.
Experts say daffodils are more hearty and will likely survive the cold snap.
It’s still early in the season and there aren’t a lot of plants available for planting, however, if you can work the ground they say it’s OK to plant shrubs now.
