AUGUSTA- Nearly three dozen senior citizens were honored Tuesday in Augusta. They came from all walks of life, but what they have in common is that all of them continue to give back to their communities.
Some 300 people filled one of the Augusta Civic Center banquet rooms as the awards were presented by the president of the Maine Health Care Association.
Among the honorees was Bob Harris, 92, of Deer Isle. He is a decorated World War II veteran, an inventor, a research chemist and the unofficial photographer for the town of Deer Isle. While Harris may live in a nursing home now, he continues to take plenty of pictures everyday.
Maine is the grayest state in the country, with nearly 20% of its population over the age of 65.
