BANGOR – Members of the city council continue to discuss a possible overhaul of Pickering Square.
Plans for the space in Downtown Bangor were revealed to city council members for the first time as The Queen City looks to revamp the historical location. Some of the plans include creating a new entrance on Water Street for the city’s parking garage. This would allow the road that passes in front of the garage to be closed off.
“We think by separating those two things creating a different entrance to the parking garage which can be achieved fairly easily, we create some really nice contiguous spaces in front of the garage. That gives people the ability to experience more of a public open space when they walk out of the garage.” said economic director Tanya Emery.
While many are excited about these plans, there are some concerns about overhauling Pickering Square.
“I’m very adamant about making sure that we don’t lose pieces of our history, as we redevelop parts of Bangor and downtown as well of the natural features.” added Bangor city councilor Gibran Graham.
The plans were met with positive feedback and planners will continue to create the best option for Bangor.
