LINCOLN– Police are having an adult conversation about an adult subject inhabiting our schools called “sexting”
Mattanawcook Academy held an assembly Wednesday, to address the serious issue affecting students across the nation. Students have been caught sending and receiving illicit pictures and messages between one another.
Principal Pietras of Mattanawcook Academy says “(students) don’t understand the implications of sending naked shots of themselves, and the fact that they’re out there forever. They cant be taken back, and they’re giving them to their boyfriend or girlfriend thinking I’m in love right now, but love is fleeting at this age”.
Statistics by the national campaign to prevent teen pregnancy show 20% of teens will send or receive one of these inappropriate photos, not understanding the legal implications and long damage it can cause.
Police are now creating strict regulations for anyone participating in this dangerous act, expalining to students that these photos can prevent them from applying to colleges or jobs with one Google search.
Mattanawcook academy is hoping with this assembly, students will think again about sending that text.
