BANGOR – A new app could provide a boost to the Bangor area. Its creator says it will help local businesses as well as visitors.
Maine is known for many things such as lobster, blueberries and it’s beauty. People traveling to Maine however, might have a harder time finding the local attractions.
After years of research, Leeanne Hewey developed an app, called The Other Maine.
“Maine is a huge state and it’s hard to discover it in a day trip when you’re doing it all by yourself,” said Hewey.
What started as a scary idea became a motivating reality for Hewey.
“I have a passion for this state. I am native Mainer and I think traveling and tourism is what is going to keep this state alive,” said Hewey. “With all of the industry closing, we need to increase traveling and tourism and network together.”
There are already a few nonprofit organizations benefiting from this app, such as UMAINE Museum of Art.
“I found out that we were included on the website and we were very happy about it as a nonprofit,” said Kathryn Jovanelli, assistant coordinator at UMAINE Museum of Art. “Any kind of advertising is always a great thing.”
The Other Maine is not just a website but an app that can be downloaded on the Android and iPhone.
