STATEWIDE – The mild winter saved millions of dollars from the Maine Department of Transportation for other projects that wouldn’t have happened this year.
The warm temperatures and lack of snow saved Maine DOT time and money to be exact about 9-million dollars.
They’ve re-programmed and the commissioner has approved about 6-million dollars going into bridge and highway preservation. We are told crews will work on about 30 bridges and 20 highways across the state this year.
To put it in perspective the difference in their budget this year from last the Augusta public works director says, last winter sent them nearly half a million dollars over budget.
This year, they came out about 100-thousand dollars under budget.
