ELLSWORTH – Local area businesses battled it out on stage at the Ellsworth Grand Saturday evening.
The “Grand Mouth-Off’ gave several Ellsworth organizations the ability to cut loose and show the community just what they are made of.
“We came up with the idea in a board committee looking for a fundraiser to replace ‘Ellsworth Dancing With the Stars,'” Executive Director of the Ellsworth Grand Gail Thompson said. “And we wanted something that would bring the community in and involve businesses. And so we actually invited a number of area businesses to come in and perform.”
Seven of those businesses took on the challenge, including The Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Machias Savings Bank, The Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, Darling’s, Rocket Computer, The YMCA, and The Ellsworth Fire Department.
The winning business was elected by a panel of local celebrities and by the most popular vote of the audience, who support their community and local businesses.
“It gives the businesses a lot of chance to just shine and just show what they are all about.” audience member Julie Pelletier said.
The lip-sync battle sold over 400 tickets, and all proceeds go towards the Ellsworth Grand’s future programs.
“Just supporting this area because it is a small town, everybody knows everybody and it’s important to be a part of this,” Pelletier said.
