BANGOR – Over 170 athletes gathered at Family Fun Lanes in Bangor for a competition they have been working towards all year.
16 teams came from a 100 mile radius to try and get a gold medal.
Maine Special Olympics program director Mark Capano said athletes from Millinocket to Rockland competed today.
Capano added “This is our 2016 State Central Maine Bowling Championship. A lot of the athletes you see here today have gone through regional s and now’s the time for them to show the world they have abilities.”
There are over 4,000 athletes in Maine that compete in 32 different sports.
Athlete Tash McLaughlin said “I hope to get a gold, if I don’t get a gold, I can get a silver medal and a bronze would be okay.”
