SKOWHEGAN – A Skowhegan woman is expected to appear in court today after being charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Shawna Towers, 29, was arrested Wednesday after her 5 year old child was discovered playing in a mud puddle on the corner of Russel Road and Spring Street. Police said the child was only wearing a sweatshirt given by a passerby who found the child and called authorities.
Police eventually found Towers and two other adults in a home on Russel Road. They had no idea the child had left the home.
According to the morning sentinel, there was a similar incident back in January when the same child was spotted running in traffic on the Waterville Road. The child is now in the care of a family member and the Department of Health and Human Services is also investigating.
