SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Not everyone was home cooking for Thanksgiving. Community members worked together to raise money for the Southwest Harbor Fire Department.
It is always a Thanksgiving tradition to do extreme workouts before eating…well maybe not. For the second year in a row, community members are lifting ladders, pulling rope and working together, to raise money for a good cause.
“The firefighters are in need of equipment and this is a great way to have a good work out,” said Kristy Sharp, a personal trainer, “Have some fun, come in and sweat for Thanksgiving before your meal and help raise some money for equipment that the firefighters are going to use.”
And by working together as a team, the goal is becoming possible.
“You see what you do. You see how physical it is and not that it’s always fun, but there can be fun aspects,” said Sharp, “It’s teamwork. It’s being a part of a family, a team of people you might not have known before.”
One does not just be a firefighter – one has to workout like one. This training provides real life simulation of what it is like on the job and sometimes it is okay to ask for help. There are no age requirements for these fire fighters in training, just a lot of hard work.
