ELLSWORTH – We’ve been told for years, Maine is in the middle of a drug epidemic.
Now, there’s another sign help is on the way.
A New York-based drug addiction treatment center recently opened its doors in Ellsworth.
The new Ellsworth office brings to five the number of Maine centers operated by the company.
“One of the things that appeals to most people about Groups is that first and foremost we treat all the people that come to treatment with the highest degree of dignity and respect. Oftentimes in some places, people that are addicted are treated like second class citizens. We don’t do that,” said Don Kent, Groups Maine clinical director.
The business plan calls for the company to focus on more rural areas. In fact, another Groups center is slated to open in Calais in December.
