BANGOR – The Eastern Maine Development Corporation is getting some help thanks to a grant.
The U.S. Economic Administration is awarding a $.5 million to the group after months of research and planning. EMDC is hoping to bring prosperity to the state.
EMDC Director Dr. Vicki Rusbult said “We completed an 18 month to two year strategic planning project that was specifically funded to help us look at how to help our region recover from all closing of the paper mills, the downsizing of the manufacturing and job losses.”
The money will focus on seven sectors, including opportunities for growth, job creation and young people.
Two full time staff members will also be hired to focus on both the Katahdin Region and the four county area of Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo.
