BANGOR – With the holiday season upon us, local businesses downtown are coming together to make shopping less stressful for people working late.
Downtown Bangor is a great place to hangout and go shopping, until the sun sets. But starting tomorrow, for the month of December, local businesses are coming together and are remaining open a little later.
“There will be some businesses that will be opened a little later,” said City Councilor, Gibran Graham, “It’s great to expose people to all the great things happening downtown.”
The hours will be extended every Thursday.
“I think we’d miss a large group of shoppers if we closed early because people are getting out of work at 5 p.m.,” said Elizabeth Butler, the owner of Specialty Sweets.
It provides new businesses the opportunity to test out extended hours.
“It’s hard for people working traditional hours from 8-5 p.m., to come downtown after work to shop because of the shops that close,” said Tanya Emery, Director of Community and Economic Development.
Not only are stores extending their hours, but there will be numerous of events happening all across downtown so you can get your holiday shopping done.
“Some of the businesses participating in this promotion are also offering some specials and events,” said Emery, “It’s because it provides a variety of activities for people who want to come downtown for the evening.”
