BUCKSPORT – A warm pair of socks is something most people take for granted, but for some essentials like socks can be a luxury.
That’s why the Seaboard Federal Credit Union set out to collect 300 pairs of socks to give to area homeless shelters this holiday season. They said more than 600 pairs of socks along with many new hats and mittens came through the door.
Shaw House outreach coordinator Sherrie House said “Socks are something we go through quite a bit at the shelter. Youth come in often without socks or with socks they have worn for days so to have a donation like this is really exciting.”
SFCU Loan Officer Johanna Dorr said “We had a lot of fun with this and we are already thinking about how we are going to do it next year we’ll be back at it.”
The Seaboard Federal Credit Union is giving the warm socks to the Shaw House of Bangor, The Bangor Homeless Shelter and the EMMAUS Center in Ellsworth.
