AUGUSTA-Blaming Democrats and other Lawmakers for getting in the way, Governor Lepage announced today he’s abandoning the plan to build a new psychiatric facility in Augusta.
He plans instead to announce a new site for the proposed facility next week.
Lepage had proposed the build the $3.5 million dollar facility next to the Riverview Psychiatric Center.
It would be used to house people who commit crimes, but are determined to be legally insane or incompetent to stand trial.
Lawmakers have blocked an attempt to move forward with the project on two occasions, saying they need to hold hearings to gather more information before signing off.
Lepage has said other sites in Bangor and Freeport are also being considered.
He said on WGAN radio this morning the administration will have a site selected by the first of the week.
