BANGOR – The decorations are packed away until next year, but what do you do with the tree?
That’s right, Christmas 2016 is in the rear view mirror.
Some people will keep their tree and holiday decorations up for a while longer.
Those of you with an artificial tree only have to take it apart, put it in the box,, and store it. until next December. No pine spills to vacuum or sap to clean off your hands. For those with real trees, though it’s a different story. Some already have stripped their trees and shipped them outdoors.
“They can bring their old trees to public works at 530 Maine Avenue,” said Dwain Cyr, a dispatcher with the Bangor Public Works Department.
Yes, Christmas was just Sunday, but by Monday some people already had left their naked trees at sites in Bangor and Brewer.
Startling January third, Bangor offers a pick-up service as well. “Best thing is to have them out by six thirty in the morning. And, they’ll be picked up for two weeks until the 13th,” according to Cyr.
The trees aren’t just thrown out, though. Some are used as fuel, other will be re-used, too. “Some of them will be chipped and used throughout the city,” Cyr said. during a Monday morning interview.
Some towns give you the option – drop it off at a designated site or leave it by the side of the road and they’ll come by and pick it up for you.
However, to be on the safe side, call you local public works department.
