AUGUSTA – One of the states top republicans is calling for a joint select committee to find solutions to Maine’s drug epidemic.
Assistant House Minority Leader Ellie Espling sent a letter last week.
Espling said she anticipates many bills focused on the issue when the legislature reconvenes in January. In her letter Espling reminded leaders that drugs are now killing more Mainers than car accidents.
She wants the committee to focus on three components including enforcement, treatment and education. Espling said she does not want good ideas to get lost and she believes a joint select committee is the answer.
