BANGOR– With multiple stores closing in the Bangor area, the Career Center’s “Rapid Response” team is helping employees who are losing their jobs find employment.
“It’s called a rapid response meeting, and we set those up the second we hear someone is closing” said Lisa Cyr, the Assistant Career Center Manager.
Rapid response is working hard after multiple closures in the area. “We talk to as many employees as we can get to, and give them info on unemployment, healthcare, and Career Center services” said Cyr.
Macys, Kmart, Giaccomo’s, and others are closing their doors for good. Cyr said this may be due to a switch over to online purchasing, and a variety of other reasons. Rapid response worked with seventeen Kmart employees Monday to show them other opportunities after a store closure. The store is terminating 64 jobs, 9 of them are full time, and the Career Center is expecting more people to step forward looking for help
If you’re looking for a career with great job security, Cyr says healthcare and information technology rank the highest in long term careers that Maine has to offer.
