STONINGTON-Maine fishermen never know what they’ll find when they haul their catch aboard.
That was certainly the case for John Jones of Stonington who pulled in an unusual bottle while dragging for scallops.
He shared the picture on Facebook to show people what he found.
We did some checking and determined it’s one of the Moses bottles that were once given away as souvenirs by the Poland Spring Hotel when it opened in 1876.
They were filled with the famous Poland Springs water.
Several other versions were made over the decades that followed and some were also filled with different varieties of alcohol.
One of the most popular Moses bottles was released in 1925.
That was a clear bottle and one in good condition today is worth about $65 dollars.
Other versions can go as high as $200 dollars.
